Time travel has been a topic of debate for a long period of time. If you have come here to read this article, you already possess some knowledge about time travel. Well, another thing that sometimes triggers our thoughts while talking about time travel is free will.
WHAT IS FREE WILL?
Free will is someone’s ability to decide whether he should do something or not, or we can say the independence of choosing something. But you will be now thinking why I am talking about free will here in an article that must talk about time travel.
Consider you have travelled to your past and you want to meet your younger self to tell him something important about your future self. Now the question is will you be able to meet him or her? Will you be able to do whatever you want to. That’s where free will comes into play.
WHAT DOES GRANDFATHER PARADOX SUGGEST IN TIME RAVEL?
Grandfather paradox suggests that you won’t be able to change your past even though you have travelled to the past. Circumstances will occur such that you won’t be able to meet your younger self. That’s of course against free will. You wanted to do something, but situations were such that you couldn’t perform it.

AN INSTANCE FROM DARK, A NETFLIX SERIES(TIME TRAVEL) :
Let’s take an example straight out of popular culture. If you have watched Netflix series Dark, which is probably one of the best shows to have presented time travel in science fiction history, (SPOILERS AHEAD), you would have seen that when Jonas went back in time through the caves of Winden and decided to take back Mikell to the present, who in fact would have continued to live on to become his father, he actually couldn’t do it. It was a stranger who stopped him to do so as if he did this, it would contradict his own existence. So, Jonas couldn’t perform freely what he chose to do. It was against free will. So, this suggests that everything is already fixed and everyone is just going around in an endless time loop (as suggested in Dark). Don’t go on to believe in these stuff though as it’s only science-fiction.
Still our minds get curious as to how we are not free in whatever we do. Everything that we do paves way to some other events that we have very little knowledge. Watch this amazing time travel series here
THE UNIVERSE WANTS US TO FIND ITSELF:
So, is time travel possible? No idea. Who knew we would fly today! Who knew this internet thing will one day revolutionize everything that we had ever imagined. Is there anything called free will? Or are we just trapped in an endless cycle of events?
Well, that’s the beauty of nature. It makes us ask more and more questions. It makes us curious. It wants us to know its mysteries. The universe is there. It’s just us who need to look out at the right place at the right time.
