Beyond Earth: Our Path To A New Home In The Planets

What is Beyond Earth?

Book recommendation for AVID Readers Part I

In this series of articles, we will post book recommendations twice every week with the purpose of spreading awareness about book reading and how reading books can improve our lives to much higher degrees. So, let’s begin our book recommendation series with a book that is really close to my heart, a book that made me fascinate about space and space colonization more than ever. The book is called “Beyond Earth: Our Path To A New Home In The Planets”, penned by Charles Wohlforth and Amanda R. Hendrix.

Beyond Earth by Charles Wohlforth and Amanda R. Hendrix

Penned beautifully by a leading planetary scientist and an award-winning science writer, the book explores the dream of space colonization and shows a lot of optimism toward the fulfilment of that dream.

The most unique thing about this book is, unlike any other space colonization articles or books, this one confidently cites that we will reside on Titan one day; not Mars, but Titan, one of the satellites of Saturn. Straight away in the first sentence of the book, it says that people will one day live on Titan. So, the entire book goes this way interpreting about Titan and how we can make our habitats on the largest moon of Saturn.

How much technology we should evolve to settle in space

Another interesting thing about the book you will notice while reading it is that it is written on two time-lines alternatively. At one point, it talks about the present technology we have on earth and how much we need to enhance them to reach Titan, and another point it depicts about our future on that moon of Saturn, and we are going to live there and fly there on its minimal gravitational field. The book also reflects on the psychological effects of space travel within a confined region for a very long period of time. We have also discussed the psychology of space travel in our previous articles. You can check that article in the link given in the end.

Without giving much away, I would highly recommend this book for those space fascinated people who love to read and discuss space and our future in it. That’s it for this article. Have a great read. Don’t forget to share your thoughts if you have already read the book. Thank you.
